Garden Designer Becca Duncan
My approach as a garden designer is to start by listening to your ideas of how you would like to use your garden. I find out what you would like to achieve with this space. Based on this, I design stylish gardens that respond to your brief and enhance your lifestyle. I can oversee your garden development from design concept to planting to make this process as smooth and seemless as possible.
Having trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, I have a diploma in Garden Design. I am also a pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers.
Every place has it’s own unique qualities. It is my philosophy to design harmonious spaces that are sympathetic to the surrounding landscape. These capture and enhance the spirit of a place. I design gardens that have a strong connection to the house, based on it’s architecture.
Where possible, I use natural landscaping materials, such as stone and timber in my designs. I source the best quality materials that are available to ensure the garden weather’s well in the Scottish environment.
Garden design and the environment
Where possible, I prefer to use environmentally friendly design solutions and locally and ethically sourced materials. I like to create gardens that are sustainable.
To create a truly individual garden that is unique to you, I often use bespoke hand-crafted garden structures. I can commission garden benches, pergolas, water features and sculptures that are specifically made by local craftsmen for your garden.
I have a very natural planting style and use plants that are suitable for the environment they are being planted in. This creates a soft harmonious look that ties in well with the surrounding landscape. These borders are easier to maintain, as the plants do not need staking or frequent watering, chemical fertilisers or pesticides.
As well as studying at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, I also worked at a local nursery offering advice on which plants would be best for the customer’s garden. I select the healthiest and longest flowering varieties of plant for my planting schemes.
Blossoming Gardens is based in just outside Edinburgh in the East Lothian village of Inveresk.
