The owners of this informal family garden live in the seaside suburb of Portobello. They lead busy lives with three children, friends, family and neighbours popping in and out throughout the day. They wanted a garden that really suited their lifestyle.
Now the parents love to dine out on the terrace with a glass of wine, while the sausages sizzle on the barbecue. The kids play on the trampoline with their friends or ride their bikes out along the promenade.
This informal family garden gives everyone a chance to unwind away from city life and connect with nature and the seasons. Birds, butterflies and bees love the berries and nectar rich flowers that have been planted here. The kids help grow fruit and vegetables, such as blueberries, damsons and salad leaves for their healthy home-made meals.
The planting has coppery tints in the stems, leaves and flowers. These complement the tones in the corten steel border edging and sandstone setts used as landscaping materials.
