Design Process

Below is an outline of the steps we will take together as we design your garden. The design process is intended to be enjoyable, collaborative and tailored specifically to your individual needs, lifestyle and aspirations.

Successful garden design is achieved by following a considered process through to its logical conclusion. Each phase builds upon the work agreed during the previous stage, with many decisions made along the way.

All projects begin with an initial consultation, where we take the time to get to know you, your style and the way you would like to use your outdoor space. This meeting allows us to understand how best to tailor the design to both your lifestyle and your budget.

Creating a new garden is often more expensive than clients initially anticipate, which is where our experience can be particularly valuable — helping you make informed decisions and ensuring your investment is spent wisely.

Phase 1. Initial Consultation, site measure and Concept DevelopmentGarden design visual

We will begin by obtaining detailed measurements of your site, including any changes in level. We will also assess the orientation of your garden, local climate, soil conditions, views, access requirements and any site-specific opportunities or constraints.

This information is then carefully analysed to develop the overall design concept, layout and spatial planning for your garden. The focus at this stage is on optimising the use of the space while enhancing the flow, functionality and overall experience of the garden.

Alongside the layout plans, we also create moodboards and 3D visuals to help you gain a clear understanding of the proposed design direction and atmosphere.

Once the concept design has been developed, we will meet to discuss the details together. This provides an opportunity for you to share your feedback and thoughts. These will then be incorporated into the final garden design.

Phase 2. Design Documentation

Once we have agreed upon a clear layout plan, the detailed design drawings will be prepared to scale. These will include level changes, material specifications, construction details, and a comprehensive scope of works. The decisions made at this stage play an important role in shaping the overall look and feel of the garden. They also affect it’s long-term functionality and practicality.

These detailed plans provide the landscaper with the information required to prepare an accurate quotation and successfully construct your garden.

Depending on the scope of the project, additional expertise from structural engineers, lighting specialists or local craftspeople may be required. Where necessary, we can also prepare and submit planning applications on your behalf.

Phase 3. Construction

Once the design package is complete, we can obtain quotations from reputable landscaping contractors who are well suited to your project.

During the construction phase, our team will monitor progress on site to ensure the work is carried out in accordance with the design drawings and specifications. This helps maintain quality throughout the build and ensures that the original design vision is translated into the finished garden.

Phase 4. PlantingPlanting_scheme

We will create a cohesive planting palette tailored to your garden’s conditions, ensuring the planting scheme enhances the character and adds seasonal interest .

The next step is to prepare a detailed planting plan for your new garden, positioning the plants and composition.

Once the planting plan has been finalised, we can source a wide range of high-quality plants from reputable nurseries. We can then arrange for your garden to be professionally planted.

Once your new garden has been created, we will remain at your disposal as it becomes established. We can provide management plans and arrange follow-up visits in order to ensure that you have the knowledge to care for your garden. If you’d prefer to outsource the management of your garden, we can recommend a local gardener.
