The residents of this rural steading moved to the East Lothian countryside to relax into retirement. As they had more spare time, they wanted to invest in a beautiful outdoor space. When we initially arrived at the garden, cars parked on the sea of gravel in front of their house blocked the stunning view from their house.
To resolve this, we reconfigured this space and planted a hedge to divert the driveway. The couple now sit out on their patio looking out over a very soft and natural garden. This is filled with billowing planting that blends beautifully into the landscape beyond.
They can dip their toes in a cool tranquil contemporary pool on a hot summer’s day. Or watch the stunning East Lothian sunsets reflected in it’s surface. Or raindrops rippling out when the heavens open. And wondering through a rustic wooden frame, they find the grandchildren running around on the lawn.
Outside the back door, the owners now enjoy their morning coffee and bacon rolls in their new sunny, secluded kitchen garden. Here, they are surrounded by fragrant roses and herbs. There is space to grow fruit and vegetables in raised beds for a tasty supper. They love being able to grab a handful of fresh herbs to throw in the cooking pot.
