A design for a coastal garden with gabion wall

This charming fishing cottage had recently been renovated, with a new garden building added to the property. The clients wanted to create a coastal garden that would complement the character of the house while enhancing the way they used and enjoyed the outdoor space.
The surrounding landscape became a key source of inspiration for the design.

As the garden sloped down steeply at one side, we constructed a gabion retaining wall to create two distinct outdoor spaces.
The gabion wall was designed to echo the harbour wall, helping to visually connect the garden to its coastal surroundings. The detailing of the steps was also inspired by the beach huts found along the local coastline. This added a subtle sense of place and reinforced the relationship between the garden and the wider landscape.
